Our championship athletic teams have supporters. Our outstanding musical programs have promoters. And our district is enhanced by parent-teacher organizations that fund school activities as well as volunteers who assist in the classroom and elsewhere in the schools. Woodland Hills School District also has an organization that exists to support, enhance and promote academic opportunities throughout the public schools - the Woodland Hills Academic Foundation.
What We have Accomplished
Since our inception in 1999, we have:
- Administered the district's Mini-Grant Program. Mini-grants are modest cash awards that encourage and facilitate great teaching ideas. Since 2002, we have funded 78 Mini-Grants for more than $33,700, including 17 projects in 2008 for $8,500.
- Awarded scholarships for graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education at non-four-year schools. To date we have awarded 12 scholarships totaling $8,000.
- Sponsored the 2006, 2007, and 2008 All District Art Show, which featured the artwork of over 300 K-12 students and their art teachers.
- Awarded the first annual Julia Ann McCool Scholarship in the Arts and Humanities in 2008.
- Raise funds to advance the Academic Foundation's Mission.
- Foster the belief that academic achievement is important for all students by supporting and promoting the District's academic programs and accomplishments.
- Increase community pride and support for the Woodland Hills School District and its high academic standards.
- Act as a catalyst in social and professional interactions, cultivating financial, human and material resources that enrich academic opportunities and activities.
- Maintain a clear relationship with the District's Administration to maximize positive impact of foundation efforts.
Core Beliefs
The Academic Foundation is a private, non-profit association that believes that the Woodland Hills School District offers all of its students and outstanding educational experience. We are
- Devoted to promoting, supporting and enhancing academic opportunities for all students in the Woodland Hills School District;
- Committed to presenting a positive image of the Woodland Hills School District to the community and beyond, and encouraging the entire community to support its schools;
- Resolved to being informed about the many other fine professional and volunteer efforts that support the Woodland Hills School District so as not to duplicate or confuse efforts.
Woodland Hills Academic Foundation had its beginnings when a group of parents attending a meeting at the high school decided they could make a positive difference in the district by forming an organization to champion academic programs. In January 1999, WHAF formed as a non-profit, non-political, non-partisan organization dedicated to enriching academic opportunities for all our students. Today, we have among our membership parents, teachers, administrators, school board members, local municipal officials, businesspeople and other community members.
