WHAF 'S ALL DISTRICT ART 2009

The Show will be held from May 8th until May 17th. It will be open to the public Friday, May 8th from 5-8 pm; Saturday & Sunday, May 9-10 from 1-4 pm; Thursday & Friday, May 14-15 from 5-8 pm; Sat & Sun May 16-17 from 1-4 pm. Refreshments will be served for the opening on Friday, May 8th. Thursday, May 14 will be the Minigrant Showcase and WHAF awards will be announced (art show awards, and scholarships). The annual "Alumni Cabaret" will be held at 7:30 pm Saturday, May 16 at the Braddock Carnegie Library Music Hall. This is followed by a reception at the art show.

Alumni of WHHS award winning musicals will once again take to the stage. The performance will be followed by a reception at the WHAF All District Art Show across the street. All proceeds from this event will help fund WHAF activities that benefit the students of Woodland Hills School District. Tickets are required ($10 donation, $15 at the door. WHHS Mock Presidential Debate

A Mock Presidential Debate will be held at the Woodland Hills High School on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, as part of the Mini Grant Project "2008 Mock Presidential Debate & Election". The multi-disciplinary project was designed to enhance a student’s knowledge of the key issues that the two major presidential candidates will focus on in the 2008 Presidential Election. Students from both the regular education and gifted programs will be involved. The project will also involve cooperation from the gifted department, all social studies instructors, as well as the audio-visual television production staff. "The 2008 Mock Presidential Debate and Election" project was funded by a WHAF 2007-2008 Mini Grant awarded to High School teachers Ms. Heather Nyapas, Ms. Peggy Siefert , Dr. Pamela Allen, and retired teacher Mr. Richard Stanczak. A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Outdooor Environmental Classroom will be held on the grounds of Fairless Intermediate School on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 immediately following the Sixth Grade Promotional Exercise that same morning (Ribbon Cutting expected to occur around 11:30AM). Parents and interested community members are welcome to attend. The Outdoor Environmental Classroom Project was funded by a WHAF 2007-2008 Mini Grant awarded to Ms. Kim Potter and Ms. Barb Fisher of Fairless Intermediate School. The Woodland High School Jazz Band (5:30-6:00PM) under the direction of Mr. Tom Crone and the Woodland Hills Chamber Choir (7:00-7:30PM) under the direction Ms. Rachel Zinger will perform at the WHAF All District Art Show on Friday evening, May 16th. Don't miss this very special opportunity to enjoy an evening of viewing great art created by the Woodland Hills art students while listening to great music preformed by Woodland Hills musical students. 6th Grade Spectacular

The 6th Grade Spectacular will be held in the historic Braddock Carnegie Library Music Hall. Sixth grade students from all three Intermediate buildings of the Woodland Hills School District (Dickson Fairless, and Rankin) will come together under the direction of Ms. Lora Hertrick and Ms. Lisa Endler in a combined concert celebrating accomplishments in the Instrumental Program. The World Cultures classes will be sponsoring an Ethnic Heritage Night on Thursday May 1 at 6:30pm in the High School Cafeteria. There will be ethnic food, performances, and demonstrations. The High School is looking for volunteers to participate by bringing in foods from various ethnic backgrounds, demonstrate a craft or provide photos/information on a particular culture/ethnicity (if possible). GRAPHITI CAFE AT WHHS, MARCH 13 The staff of the Woodland Hills High School arts and literary magazine,"Graphiti", will be holding its annual Graphiti Cafe on Thursday,
March 13. This evening of entertainment is held each year in the High School cafeteria between 6:30 and 8:30 pm. The cafeteria is transformed
into a coffee house environment with examples of student art, live entertainment, children's activities and prizes. There will be free beverages and food available. The event is open to the public at no charge, but donations to underwrite some of the magazine's expenses are
gratefully accepted.

Buy tickets now for the "Dancing with the Teachers" show on Feb. 23 at West Junior High School. Tickets can be purchased at any of the schools before the school day starts from the building secretary. Tickets are also available at the administration building. WHAFs Annual Meeting features Mini-Grants it sponsored during the 2000-2007 school year. Students from primary, intermediate, junior and senior high school will offer short presentations on Mini-Grant-funded projects. One of these projects, the high school level Poetry Slam, will move over to Braddock Library Music Hall for a filmed presentation. WHAF encourages members and non-members alike to attend its Annual Meeting. The Art Show will have extended hours from 5-8 on May 17 to accommodate the Annual Meeting.

WHAFs Alumni Cabaret a benefit for the Foundation, and a big hit in 2006 will be held on Saturday, May 19th in the Librarys striking Music Hall. Tickets ($20 donation) are required for this performance, which will be followed by a dessert and coffee reception in the Art Show. Some of this year's performing WH alumni are Megan Elk, Nathan Good, Amy Platt, Matthew Rodrigues, Brittany Taylor, Maria Yezovich, and Michael Yezovich. Proceeds from the Alumni Cabaret will benefit next years Art Show.

National Parks MiniGrant Project

The fifth grade students in Mrs.Pearson's class at Rankin Intermediate will present their National Parks Project on May 23rd and 24th. This project was funded by a WHAF Mini-Grant. The students will be giving tours of Acadia, Haleakala, Kenai Fjords, Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks. The tours will begin at 9:45AM, 10:25AM, 1:25PM, and 2:05PM. We hope you can join us!
